Strada dei Vini del Cantico
Umbria, in addition to being the land of saints, is also a land of great wines. Aided by a particularly gentle climate, it has a striking “vocation” for vine growing and wine making, also by virtue of the geomorphological characteristics of the soils, generally loose and permeable, which are conducive to the growth and full ripening of grapes.
With a vast and courageous replanting and planting operation of vines suitable for the environment, which began in the 1960s, the foundations were laid for a continuing specialization in vine cultivation, capable of offering an excellent production as far as quality is concerned, without forcing yields. Therefore today the creation of the "Strada del Cantico", strongly desired by the towns of Todi, Marsciano, Perugia, Torgiano, Bettona, Cannara, Spello, Assisi, and Bastia Umbra, is meant to be an original combination between the atmospheres, colors, magic, and traditions of the most representative places of Umbria and the harmony of their wines and gastronomic specialties.
To discover an area of Umbria, through its historic road system, a route was devised that includes the elements of a millenary culture: old villages, towns, castles, churches and abbeys; to take a trip into the past through re-enactments, festivals, and traditions that bring to life moments of great atmosphere and intensity, to live the natural rhythms of the earth, to discover the places where noble wines are born, thanks to the toil and talent of man; to taste flavors that recall the peasants’ traditions and industriousness, a great variety of dishes and flavor combinations.
